Barinatxe, also known as “La Salvaje”, is a large undeveloped beach, made up of fine golden sand. It is 752 m long and has an area of 198,009 m² at low tide and 61,489 m² at high tide. It is located to the west of Arriatera, another beach of similar dimensions.
As its name suggests, it is a wild beach with its own dune system. It has a multipurpose building with changing rooms, showers and where the local surf schools are based, and like the rest of the beaches in this area there is a large influx of swimmers and surfers.
It is a beach that has different peaks, the best known is the wave of La Triangular, with a rocky bottom, which can hold quite a size and works with all tides. It is a long right with a very concentrated but quite noble peak, which makes it ideal for longboarding, at low tide it has a more vertical left with barrel sections. The bottoms are very changeable and can give waves of great quality
As in Meñakoz, nudism is allowed and consolidated, generally being practiced on the sides of the beach.
It offers the opportunity to carry out numerous activities, among which surfing stands out, due to the great waves of its waters, and its cliffs are ideal for paragliding.
Since 1999, the Sopela Nudist Race has been held annually in the summer months, a nudist race with free participation and divided into categories by age and sex: male, female, veterans and children.
